with the first exploration of the area and continuing year by year up to the
date of publication in 1897. An accounting of daily life including of hundreds
(and perhaps thousands) of marriages including the date and full names of the
couple; prices of food items; slaves sold at auction; Civil War life,
skirmishes, atrocities; grasshopper plagues; floods; fires; weather events;
robberies; murders; hangings and lynchings; drownings; suicides; elections;
outbreaks of disease; churches and preachers; schools; graduates from various
colleges and institutes; picnics and fairs; land sales; businesses opened and
closed; the Temperance movement; roads, railroads, and bridges built; the
"Soreheads" vs the "Ring"; lists of businessmen and public officials; plus much
more.
More than 10,000 individuals are mentioned by name. A full name and topic
